House of US

All holdings of 45 and of 45’s Corporation will become the property of the American people, following an independent commission’s accounting for the crimes, malfeasance, money laundering, ethics violations, law-bending, cheating, stealing, Constitutional violations, verbal abuse, and mental, physical, and moral exhaustion inflicted upon the American public. The former flagship T**** Tower on 5th Avenue in New York City, now called “House of US,” will be transformed into a living library housing persons most negatively and directly affected by the actions of 45’s administration.

Through an application and lottery system reviewed by an Independent Board, persons may apply to receive permanent ownership of an apartment within House of US. Priority will be given to families who were separated at the border, to families with children detained in cages, to refugees whose entrance to the country was put on hold during 45’s tenure, to families separated due to the Muslim ban, to BIPOC affected by police violence, to transgender persons barred from their military service, to BLM protestors unjustly detained by federal agents; and to all those deemed suitable by the Independent Board. The new owners of these properties will become members of the House of US co-op. Co-op and maintenance fees will be subsidized and capped for life at 15% of the unit owner’s annual income.

Retail spaces in the building will be designated as subsidized office space for non-profits devoted to the advancement of justice and equal treatment for BIPOC; for organizations focused upon the needs and well-being of immigrant communities; for organizations devoted to reproductive health and the health and rites of sex workers; and for organizations devoted to environmental justice and the protection and proliferation of green space. A low-cost health clinic will be given devoted space on the premises. All new tenants (chosen through an application and lottery system by the Independent Board) will be given a long-term, below-market lease that comprises no more than 5% of their annual operating expenses.

House of US will be outfitted with windmills and solar panels and with exterior plantings (including pollinators and nesting spaces for birds). The building will be carbon negative. Street level space surrounding the building will be planted with fruit trees; any person may pick their seasonal offerings.

The former apartment of 45 will be converted into a working post office and public library. The library will house a complete digital archives of all tax returns of 45, the tax returns of 45’s eponymous former corporation, and those of the members of 45’s family. Library staff will include archivists, curators, artists, and scholars given competitive salaries; staffing will achieve parity in terms of race, gender, age, and disability status. Staff, and an affiliated global think tank, will be employed on an ongoing and long-term basis to study the effects of 45 and determine how and what to preserve and exhibit from 45’s Presidency. An Oral History Project will collect and preserve the stories of those affected by the policies of 45’s administration. Annually the library will employ at least 10 full-time interns given a competitive salary and benefits; priority will be given to applicants with DACA status.
