The 45 library includes a modest exhibition hall dedicated to presenting coal carvings and ephemera that highlight the intersection of coal extraction and other forms of oppression and violence, for example a bullet-shaped pencil bearing the Peabody Coal logo. The rotating collection of objects are a poetic reference to empty and retrograde promises to bring back coal, that stand alongside other empty promises and problematic edicts.
The hall is framed by an unattributed text: "We're gonna put the miners back to work. We're gonna get those mines open.”
